Curriculum Information

We aim to provide a curriculum that is engaging, relevant and creative, where key skills such as problem solving, thinking and working with others are fundamental to teaching and learning across the school. We often integrate subjects such as History, Geography, Science, Art and Design Technology with Maths, English and computing, helping pupils to make meaningful connections between areas of study.

The school uses the new Primary National Curriculum 2014. We are shaping it to meet the needs of our pupils and ensure that any past under achievement is addressed. We also follow the Hampshire syllabus for Religious Education, Living Difference, which encourages pupils to interpret and respond to a variety of concepts, beliefs and practices within different religions and their own cultural and life experiences.

We want all our children to become confident learners who are able to work both collaboratively and independently. We aim to provide children with a curriculum that encourages a range of learning opportunities and styles. We plan with the individual needs of our pupils in mind. We recognise that children may learn best in different ways and at different speeds and this is reflected in our lesson planning, resources and development of the school environment.

We want to help pupils:

  • Develop investigative, enquiring minds, eager to learn new things
  • Acquire understanding, knowledge and skills relevant to adult life and employment in the fast-changing world
  • Meet challenges and overcome them in order to achieve their best, showing resilience and determination
  • Use language and mathematical skills effectively
  • Develop personal moral values, respect for religious values and tolerance of other races, religions and ways of life
  • Understand the world in which they live, and the interdependence of individuals, groups and nations. Appreciate human achievements and aspirations.

The Curriculum includes:

  • The National Primary Curriculum 2014
  • Religious Education and Collective Worship
  • Sex Education
  • Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE)

All children study the Core subjects of English and Mathematics. In addition, they study Science, Computing, Art and Design, Design technology, History, Geography, French, Music, Physical Education and Religious Education.

Our curriculum and whole school ethos also draws on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). Children learn about the rights every child should have or be able to do and we encourage them to consider as they  study different units of work and become responsible citizens.
